Franco Inn guesthouse is closed in off season but skills center is opened all year for the workshops.
Skill Center was set up in collaboration with the Future For Young People Foundation. Due to the high rate of unemployment in Tanji, the living conditions are extremely difficult and hopeless for many. There are many local young people with talent for traditional artistic disciplines. We want to offer these young people the opportunity to use their talents and passion in a focused way, to broaden their knowledge and skills, generate an income and exchange cultural understanding with visitors to the Gambia.
In addition, this project regularly provides information to local women’s groups about healthy eating, hygiene, general health and sex education.
The amount you pay for a workshop is broken down as follows: 75% goes directly to the person who gives the workshop and 25% goes to the skill center project. This money is used for maintenance and to purchase materials. It is a self-supporting project and there is no need for us to continually search for sponsorship.
